Celebrating the New Year in Japan
The arrival of a new year puts many people in a special mood. In western cultures, friends and family perform rituals to leave the ghosts of the old year behind, and to embrace new opportunities that may surface with the change of years. In Japan, “shōgatsu” – the “Japanese New Year” – has the same great importance as Christmas for most people in Europe. The New Year’s Day is called “Ganjitsu”.

KAIZEN 2016: Continuous improvement through exchange
SEKISUI Alveo hosted the 6th European KAIZEN Convention from 15th to 17th November in Geisenheim, Germany. The slogan of the event “wine, stone and health” not only represented the diversity of the emblematic landscape and its surroundings, but defined the course of the internal competition, which was held in the premises of the AKZENT Waldhotel Rheingau.

KAIZEN 2016 – 2nd place: SEKISUI Specialty Chemicals Europe
The second place goes to SEKISUI Specialty Chemicals Europe for “Improve The Accuracy In Cover Ratio Analysis”. SEKISUI Specialty Chemicals Europe produces Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH). It is a water soluble synthetic polymer with various applications in industries like building and construction, coating, paper or PVB.

KAIZEN 2016 – 3rd place: SEKISUI S-Lec Resin
SEKISUI S-Lec Resin Plant convinced the jury with their presentation “Increase steam condensate”. SEKISUI S-Lec process PVA into PVB powder which is further manufactured into PVB film. This PVB film is used in the automobile industry such as in windshields, sun roofs and side doors. It can also be found in the building construction area to increase safety and additional functionality like sound or solar control to glass windows.

Bart “Forest“ Scheepers nominated for the “Greenest Person Award“ 2017
Since 2012, outstanding environmental engagement and volunteering activities outside work duties by single persons or small groups are honoured on a yearly basis with the “Greenest Person Award”. This initiative was proposed during the SEKISUI Global Children Eco Summit in 2012. The winners are chosen by all SEKISUI employees worldwide. Bart Scheepers is one of eight nominated candidates in 2017. See below what ideas and activities he implemented in his daily life.
