As a global leader in the chemical industry, the SEKISUI CHEMICAL Group places the environment at the centre of its management priorities. During the annual SEKISUI Environment Week, employees from all business sites contribute to environmental projects – worldwide. With various sites and employees throughout Europe, SEKISUI Alveo contributed to a variety of great projects last year.
There were different projects throughout the year that employees from the SEKISUI Alveo AG in Lucerne (Switzerland) participated in. In April there was the Lucerne city run where five employees proved their team and sporting spirit: they ranked 15 amongst 26 company teams. Another two members ran the half marathon in Lucerne. In May and June, 16 employees joined the “Bike to Work Initiative” – by cycling to work the teams made around 4911 kilometres and saved a high amount of CO2. Some employees visited and learned more about the city’s local hydro power station and in November, a team cleaned the city centre for several hours (see above). Even though each person ended up with at least one bucket full of plastics, paper and cigarettes and was shocked on the high amount of rubbish, everyone enjoyed the activity in the early morning and aims to clean again in summer.
Flyers promoted the SEKISUI Environment Week and informed the employees about the daily happenings.
At SEKISUI Alveo B.V. in Roermond (Netherlands), a whole week was dedicated to the environment – with various projects such as free local fruits in the canteen and a biodiversity monitoring walk in the nature nearby. Employees also shared cars to get to work or left the car at home to walk or cycle instead. There was sportive engagement at the SEKISUI European Football Tournament 2018 and the week was finished by a “save energy Sunday” where employees switched of the lights as often as possible.
And also the activities at the other SEKISUI Alveo locations are remarkable. In Culemborg (Netherlands), for example, employees take care of a bee oasis on the roof of their building. Flowers are growing to supply bees with nectar and sand, gravel and wood is used to offer a home for the bees. In Dunstable (United Kingdom), employees were collecting rubbish around the office in October. In Dreieich (Germany) employees formed driving groups to share cars for one week and only used re-usable bags when doing grocery shopping. In Bad Sobernheim (Germany) employees with a garden brought fruits as donation. And in Italy, it was all about cleaning the office area – employees in Lainate cleaned around 0,5 cubic meters of waste and 3 cubic meters of leaves, weed and bush branches.

Great activities across Europe! Even though they are spread around Europe the SEKISUI Alveo employees really showed team work and contributed to the environment. Moreover, there are a lot of individual activities amongst the SEKISUI Alveo employees. The environment awareness is very strong, as seen in personal projects such as recycling at home, reduce heating, growing vegetables in the garden or picking up plastics when walking in nature.
