SEKISUI is expanding its production capacities for laminated glass films in the automotive sector at its Dutch sites in Geleen and Roermond. A total of 155 million euros will be invested in the construction activities, which started on April 3, 2018 with a ground-breaking ceremony.
SEKISUI S-Lec is the leading PVB film provider in the global market producing laminated glass for cars. Excellent production facilities, advanced technology and a strong team are the basis for the success of SEKISUI S-Lec. Expecting that global automobile production will increase by around 2% per year to 105 million by 2021, S-Lec is now investing in the future in order to open up new business fields.
Rising demand for laminated glass films in the automotive industry
But that’s not all. Since S-Lec laminated glass films can also be used on side windows and sunroofs, demand will grow even faster than the number of cars produced. In addition, the investment will enable the company to enter another growth market: windscreens as head-up displays (HUDs). Using S-Lec PVB technology, information can be projected directly onto the glass surface.
Ground-breaking ceremony in Geleen
On April 3, the start of construction of the third production line for SEKISUI S-Lec in Geleen was opened with a ground-breaking ceremony. The ceremony is a traditional Japanese ritual to set the project under a lucky star.
SEKISUI S-Lec invests 155 million euros in the next few years
The total cost of the capacity expansion amounts to around 155 million euros. The expansion work will increase the capacity of the Dutch sites by 50% each. In addition, construction activity for the expansion is expected to create dozens of jobs in the South-East Netherlands region. Construction in Roermond is scheduled to start in the first half of the fiscal year 2019.
