In December 2016, there was an unfortunate accident at SEKISUI Alveo in Roermond, Netherlands. A factory building burnt down at the production site. Now, everything is done to rebuild a safe facility – like the investment of several Million Euros in new state-of-the-art machinery.
A factory fire at SEKISUI Alveo in Roermond destroyed important production facilities last year. This major accident fortunately did not affect the foam production, which mainly produced materials of the Alveobloc and Alveosport brands.
Immediate customer notification and troubleshooting
In times like this, customer communication and support is as necessary as the information of employees and neighbours. After the fire, SEKISUI Alveo immediately informed its customers in order to find optimal intermediate solutions. To get production back on track as quickly as possible, SEKISUI Alveo invested several Million Euros in the project, including factory buildings, new machinery, infrastructure and safety systems.
Safe engineered machines with state-of-the-art technology
After examining all possible options for restoration, SEKISUI Alveo decided to rebuild the factory building and replace the damaged machines. The newly built factory is laid out to be more efficient than the old one and equipped with a modern fire protection system and lot more safety features. Furthermore, highly specialised machines have been engineered using state-of-the-art technology. For example, the grinder used to manufacture Alveosport does not exist anywhere else in the world.
Safety and productivity
The fire caused an unfortunate interruption of supply of certain products, but the new facility will ensure decades of efficient production of high-quality foams for customers throughout Europe and beyond. Alveosport is available again since March 2018. For the production of Alveobloc an alternative solution was found, which enabled production to resume in January 2017 with a reduced portfolio.
