In 1955, Ikuma Dan and Iku Takenaka composed the corporate song of SEKISUI: It not only reflects the company’s spirit but its attitude and possibilities. Today, about 62 years later, the song is still an important part of the SEKISUI tradition and is being performed during special occasions.
Listen to the melody of the SEKISUI Corporate Song:
“Let’s open the doors…” is not only the first line of the SEKISUI Corporate Song but the main theme of the whole song. It was also the source of inspiriation for the 70th anniversary logo. “Open the doors” reflects many of SEKISUI’s corporate attitudes such as contribution to the society, pionieer spirit and quality improvement. The lyrics describe the infinitive future and possibilities of the company and of the people amongst SEKISUI.
The song was created in 1955 – to celebrate the 8th anniversary of SEKISUI – and was established before the 3S Principle – Service, Speed and Superiority. Ikuma Dan, who was one of the leading composers for classical music in Japan back then, wrote the melody. The lyrics were written by Iku Takenaka who was a famous Japanese poet.
In Japan, many songs are originally created for cities and schools – almost every Japanese school has its own song. It is also common for companies to have their own carol. And they often ask famous artists to compose and perform their corporate song. Some of them are even sold in public CD-shops. The initial intention of a corporate song is to raise the employee’s motivation.
The SEKISUI Corporate Song is intended for certain events and is only being performed during special occasions: The commemoration day in March, the founding of SEKISUI in 1947, and the new employee entering ceremony. The performance honours the important moments of the company and the people within it.
