The aviation industry is on an increasing trend worldwide as the number of passengers in air transport continues to increase. That is why KYDEX®, produced by SEKISUI SPI (SEKISUI Polymer Innovations) from the US, is rapidly growing on its tailwind. No question, SPI was part of Aircraft Interiors Expo, the Rolls Royce of tradeshows for the aviation interiors industry. Over 20,000 people from all roles in the aviation interiors industry gathered for three days in Hamburg, Germany.
Aircraft Interiors Expo is the world’s leading event for airlines to source the latest innovations, technologies and products for the cabin interiors, inflight entertainment and passenger comfort industries.
SEKISUI SPI is a leading player in the aircrafts industry
Materials for interior products are in high demand, especially the premium seats in the business and first classes of aircrafts. The thermoplastic sheets used around the seats must be flame-resistant and durable, on top of offering comfort and high quality to satisfy the executive customers. In response to high-level requirements, KYDEX® currently boasts a record accomplishment of providing about 70% of premium seats on aircrafts around the world. Factors that gained a high market presence are, amongst others, the functionality and the colour variations they offer for the different customer needs.
The stand was clearly visible
The design was inspired by the look and principles of the Bauhaus movement from the early 20th century, which celebrates manufacturing excellence: clean lines, form following function, and craftsmanship. The stand layout was a series of areas featuring the products and capabilities of SEKISUI SPI – plus featured SEKISUI products in the VIP meeting room.
SEKISUI SPI: Sheet Business in perfection
The thermoplastic sheet is a plastic material in sheet form that transforms its shape by heating. Formed by vacuum or compressed air using an inexpensive mold, it goes through a cutting process to get the shape required for the final product. It is now used instead of injection molding, that requires an expensive metal cast for high-mix low volume products and large molded products. SPI (SEKISUI Polymer Innovations) possesses two thermoplastic sheet brands, KYDEX® and ALLEN®, due to the difference in materials. Especially KYDEX® is highly appreciated for its excellent formability and color variations.
